Teenage Mutant Ninja Nerds & A Half Man (Co-starring Dharma)

It’s impossible to know where anything is going, and as if to reconfirm the randomness of life, today I found out that the guy who co-created The Big Bang Theory and Two and A Half Men also co-wrote the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles theme song.  Seriously.

Where the hell's our vanity card, Chuck?

If you’re of a certain age (and a certain, well, dorkiness), you can probably summon up a bar or two of this epic little dity:  Heroes on a half shell, turtle power! And it was co-written and performed by none other than situation comedy maven of the moment, Mr. Chuck Lorre.  The Chuck Lorre who moved to California to be a rock-‘n-roller.  The Chuck Lorre who wrote for Roseanne and Grace Under Fire and Cybil and other shows with the industry equivalents of Sarah Palin.  The Chuck Lorre who co-created Dharma & Greg, which, frankly, most people would gladly take as their one hit show, but who also co-created half of the shows currently running on CBS not featuring all-capitalized letters in their titles.

I learned this shocking tidbit perusing his website, which you can find here:  http://www.chucklorre.com

You can also read his various vanity cards there, which are, really, kind of like a meandering, well-publicized blog.  But before anything else, you ought to read his piece from the magazine Written By…, on “How To Create A Hit Sitcom”, one of the best pieces of writing on writing I’ve read: http://www.chucklorre.com/index.php?p=writtenby

Tomorrow we’ll plumb the randomness of life by discussing how Matthew Perry was a nationally ranked tennis sensation before he turned to acting.  Seriously.

Okay, that is SO going over the net.

So you’re telling me the guy responsible for Two and a Half Men plus plus plus is also responsible for “Leonardo leads, Donatello does machines”? I’m 100% mostly certain that Lorre essentially wrote the TMNT song by picking out all the legible words from a song he spewed in a drunken stupor (which is only reinforced by his writings on writing you referenced), and then roughly translating it into Russian, and then translating it back into English. черепаха сила!!!

That’s the way I write everything.
